Add a disaster selector
to your site

< Back to selector

You've got a website. You'd like your visitors to attack your home page (or any other page) with your favorite disaster (or any other disaster of their choice). A mere copy-and-paste is all you need!

Basics

A few lines of code allow you to display Netdisaster's selector on the page of your choice, . The only difference with that of netdisaster.com is that there is no "Target" field. When your visitors clicks the "Go!" button, they'll attack automatically the current page, so there's no need for them to type a URL.
Let us see now how you can add this selector to your site.

Your site with a Netdisaster selector

1. Choosing the default options

Your visitors will have the ability to choose any disaster to attack your page. But your selector will start with the default options that you have defined.
Just like for the standard Netdisaster use, you'll need to use the form to choose your default options. Choose what disaster you want to be displayed by default, and select the default options (if available): massive destruction or self-repair, mouse-control or auto.
In order to ease fitting the selector into your webpage layout, you can choose a vertical or horizontal toolbar. The selector is vertical by default (like on Netdisaster's homepage); if you check the "horizontal" box, the toolbar will be displayed inline (like in Netdisaster's toolbar, while viewing a disaster) - see below.

2. Copying the code

As soon as your default options are defined, click in the second "copy and paste" text area. Select all (Ctrl+A) and copy it (Ctrl+C or right-clic + copy).
Then, edit the html page from your site, on which you intend to add a disaster selector.
<body> tag, and after </body> (therefore not in the <head></head> section, eg.). The code can be inserted anywhere in the page body: you choose the better place.
When your page is under attack, your Netdisaster selector will be hidden.

3. Upload

You can test your page locally to see how the selector fits into your page layout. But if you click on the "Go!" button, this won't work, since Netdisaster cannot attack local pages. This will work when the page is online. If you want to perform a few tests, rename your page and upload it. When you're done, upload the page to your server with its original name.

Back to faqUpdates

When new disasters are released, or when former disasters get new options, you won't have anything to do: the disaster selector on your page will also be automatically updated with these new features.

Back to faqBe creative!

You can use Netdisaster-Yourself! to create your own games and entertaining features. For example, feel free to create a page featuring a large picture of George Bush (or Osama Bin Laden, Jacques Chirac, Mickey Mouse, Paris Hilton, your school, your country or anything you want), and then insert into this very page the disaster selector. Your visitors can have fun destroying any item you wish with the disaster of their choice!

Back to faqHow to subscribe? Unsubscribe?

You don't need to subscribe: copy-and-paste the code is enough to get the disaster selector. When you don't want to have this selector anymore, all you need is to remove the code from your page.

Back to faqHow much does it cost?

$0.

Back to faqBlogs and other free web spaces

If you don't have a "real" website, but on the contrary a weblog or any other kind of site whose contents you add directly online, via a dedicated user interface, you might not be able to add a Netdisaster-Yourself! feature into your pages. For security purposes, most of these services disable html and javascript code.
In this case, don't be sad! Just add a link, from your page to a disaster attacking your page.
